Debenhams opens first store in Bulgaria
Debenhams, one of the UK’s most popular and successful high street retailers, has opened its first store in Bulgaria.
It is located in Bulgaria Mall in the capital city of Sofia, which is a popular shopping space for affluent customers.
This is the first in a number of stores, explained Debenhams’ international director Francis McAuley. The development of a second store is already under consideration.
“We see Bulgaria as a strategically important market for our European expansion, and Sofia is an appealing location for our first store opening here,” she added.
“There is clearly a gap in the market for a strong department store offer. Our aspirational brands at value for money prices across fashion, cosmetics, accessories, lingerie and homeware will appeal to Bulgarian consumers.”
This latest development is part of a wider project, with Debenhams’s seeking to develop its brand globally. Over the next five years, it intends to double its business across the world. Serbia and Croatia are next on the agenda.
