Wimbledon Cricket Club readies itself for semi-final clash at Edgbaston
Wimbledon Cricket Club is readying itself for a place in the final of the ECB National Club T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston, when it takes on Cuckney in what is sure to be an entertaining semi-final clash.
If Wimbledon proves to be victorious in the much anticipated match, which is being shown live on Sky Sports 4 at 3:25pm tomorrow (September 6th), they will either face Chester-le-Street Cricket Club or Northern Cricket Club in the final.
Wimbledon batted and bowled their way through a blisteringly competitive game against Bristol in the quarter-finals.
Luckily, the relentless onslaught of rain in the days running up to the game managed to hold off and it turned into a fantastic day of sunshine, an almost perfect day for a spot of cricket.
Bristol proved to be worthy competitors though, taking Wimbledon all the way to the final over, with The Dons finally securing their place in the final four with, rather aptly, just four wickets.
Of the upcoming match against Cuckney, Simon Waymouth, group risk manager at Cadogan Tate, proud sponsors of Wimbledon Cricket Club, is optimistic about their chances.
“Wimbledon was in this enviable position two years ago,” he said. “And we have a great feeling about the match. Because they’ve been here before, the club has an advantage – they know what it’s like being in front of the cameras.”
Simon, who has been involved with the club for over 20 years, explained that it is easy for players to get distracted and caught up in the glow of performing in such surroundings.
After all, it’s not your typical match when it’s being beamed to sports fans not just in the UK, but around the world. It’s enough to throw you off your game, although this time around, Wimbledon’s players have no such worries.
Although he’s confident that The Dons will triumph against Cuckney, he appreciates that it will not be an easy match: “One thing is for sure – the standard of cricket will be exceptionally high.”
Simon added that representatives of Cadogan Tate, which has sponsored Wimbledon Cricket Club for the last five years, will be in attendance to cheer on the team.
It’s an invaluable partnership between Cadogan Tate and Wimbledon, and goes a long way in helping the club acquire new kits, equipment, and assisting towards the youth academy.
The final of the ECB National Club T20 will take place at 7:10pm on the very same day as both semi-finals, which is also live on Sky Sports 4.
