The second-ever artMRKT exhibition is set to come to San Francisco this May, and will be looking to build on the success enjoyed in its debut last year, 2011.
artMRKT is a Brooklyn-based art fair organiser and was co-founded by gallerist Max Fishko and his long-time business partner Jeffrey Wainhause. Last year’s event proved to be a huge success.
According to organisers, the event was attended by over 13,000 people across the course of the weekend-long event. It also saw plenty of requests from participating galleries and visitors for a return next year.
They haven’t disappointed.
Between May 17th and May 20th, the Concourse Exhibition Center in the city will welcome a veritable feast of top quality art, from 70 modern and contemporary galleries.
Part of the reason why it has been able to return, aside from its strong opening foray into the art exhibiting world, is that it has good links with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco as well as the Asian Art Museum.
Mr Fishko commented: “We are extremely fortunate to have secured the support of an esteemed group of gallerists, artists, collectors, sponsors, and cultural and media partners, and we’re looking forward to opening our second season.”
This year’s event will include a heavy focus on the influence that the iconic Golden Gate Bridge has had on the city and what role structures have on settlements.
There will also be presentations from several esteemed guests, including Richard Misrach, keynote artist and award-winning photographer and Timothy Anglin Burgard, from the Fine Arts Museums.
The fair is really becoming a mainstay of the art calendar in the US, and it seems that San Francisco could be in for plenty more instalments if this year’s event is as well attended as last year’s.
Mr Fishko has already said the group is “setting our sights on the future” and that can only be good news for art lovers in and around the San Francisco region.
