While professionals might have taken on the services of a moving and storage company to safely and securely move their furniture and valuable possessions abroad, there is always the matter of immediate items to consider.
With that in mind, people who might be flying out over the weekend of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will have to be conscious of the fact that at Stansted Airport, baggage handlers will be on strike.
The GMB union has announced that strikes are back on after negotiations with Swissport once again ended without any conclusive resolution over disagreement about new rotas that have been introduced.
According to the union, these rotas will result in employees working longer shifts and more days, while having to also contend with losing earnings.
“GMB negotiators have been in talks to reach an agreement to resolve this issue since the agreed suspension of the strike action scheduled over Easter,” explained Gary Pearce, a spokesman for the union.
“It is a shame that Swissport has made and then withdrawn a number of proposals including a return to the original four-days-on and two-days-off roster which would have settled the dispute. The proposals were withdrawn last Friday.”
The proposed four-day strike is scheduled to last from 5.30am on June 2nd until June 6th.
