Brits moving to America should get independent advice when considering buying property, according to an expert.
Liz Rowlinson, editor of A Place in the Sun Magazine, said it was fundamental that British expats receive independent legal advice, especially when it concerns purchasing a bank-owned property.
This is because these kinds of property differ from those outside of bank ownership and are, by virtue of this association, more complicated and take longer to process.
“Don’t expect to be able to get mortgages particularly easily at the moment either – you really need to be a cash buyer,” she added.
“Be very wary about who you are dealing with and always have legal advice.”
In related news, the National Association of Realtors recently revealed that the total sales volume of US property to international clients was estimated at $82.5 billion (£52.9 million).
