There are so many reasons why people should consider moving to China, with the world’s most populous nation boasting quantity and quality in equal measure.
Manuel Mascarenhas, managing director of Wendy Wu Tours, acknowledged that China is “such a fascinating, diverse country” that hides more than 4,000 years of history across its vast land.
With all of this history to explore throughout such a large landscape, people heading over to China may be puzzled about where exactly to visit first.
To help, Ms Macharenhas advised: “One of the modern wonders of the world is the Great Wall, which is just outside of Beijing and about 4,000 miles long.”
Perfect. After all, chances are if someone is asked to think about the sights and sounds of China, its Great Wall has to spring to mind fairly quickly.
This should be no surprise, given the amount of wonder and astonishment surrounding the structure – or should that be structures, as the Great Wall is actually a collection of short walls that snake around the crest of hills on the southern edge of the country’s Mongolian plain.
As Mr Mascharenhas mentioned though, the Great Wall is located on the outskirts of Beijing, a city that has to be seen with one’s own eyes to be truly believed.
Even Marco Polo agrees, with the intrepid explorer stating to those who asked about his trips to China aeons ago: “What I have told you was not even half of what I saw. Actually, what was mentioned above is only a fraction of Beijing that awaits visitors from all over the world.”
What Polo could not foreshadow all those centuries ago is that Beijing, being one of six ancient cities spread across China, is now the most important transportation hub in the country.
On top of that, its streets and attractions, of which there are far too many to list in one go, display a heart and soul of politics, culture and society that most of the world’s other major cities can only dream of.
